The world of Paul Frank began with Paul Frank Sunich, an American cartoonist, artist and fashion designer in Huntington Beach, California in the 1990s. Paul would create gifts for his friends with a sewing machine he received as a Christmas present, while working part time and living with his parents. By 1998 the company was fully incorporated and has since grown into a global brand with stores called Paul Frank Industries. There are a group of cute animal characters at the heart of Paul Frank Industries; Julius the Monkey, Bunny Girl, Worry Bear, Clancy, Bob the Braces Dog, Skurvy the Skull & Crossbones, Sheree and Lester the Frog. All these characters and more featured in Julius & Friends, a web series of short stories that brought Frank’s imagination to the wider world. In addition to this, several fashion designers have collaborated with Paul, taking Julius’s iconic cheeky chops into the style and vision of other art forms. The Paul Frank brand remains nostalgic to its humble beginnings and promotes a “return to innocence”, encouraging us to be playful, happy and fearless in life.
